Blyth Spartans Women represents the modern revival of one of the most storied names in women’s football history. While the club is internationally famous for its men’s “giant-killing” exploits, the women’s side carries a pioneering legacy on Tyneside and in Northumberland that predates most professional clubs in England.

📜 Club Overview & History

Home Ground & Facilities Matches are hosted at the iconic Croft Park in Blyth (NE24 3JE) alongside training and recruitment sessions at Wensleydale.
The “Munitionettes” Legacy During World War I, the Blyth Spartans Munitionettes—spearheaded by legendary forward Bella Reay—became the most famous women’s team in the country, lifting the 1918 Munitionettes’ Cup undefeated.
Modern Re-formation After a long hiatus, the club officially returned a senior Blyth Spartans Women side for the 2025/26 season, ensuring the famous “Spartans” name is represented in the adult female pyramid alongside their thriving junior academy.

⚽ Competitive Standing

League Level After winning promotion in a brilliant inaugural 2025/26 campaign, the team now competes in the Northumberland Football League Women’s Premier Division.
Building the Foundation Having completed their “re-launch” season in May 2026, the squad has established a competitive footing while integrating directly into the main club’s matchday infrastructure at Croft Park.
Cup & Matchday Platform Active contenders in county cup competitions—including the Northumberland FA Women’s Trophy—regularly drawing triple-figure attendances under the Croft Park lights.

📈 Pathway & Academy

Youth-to-Senior Bridge Provides female players across Blyth and South East Northumberland with a complete in-house pathway from junior grassroots right through to senior first-team football.
Open Access Recruitment The club runs regular recruitment and development sessions at Wensleydale for players aged 16+ looking to transition into the senior women’s game.
Academy Watch The senior management team works closely with the Blyth Spartans U18s and U19s, maintaining tactical continuity that mirrors the club’s wider first-team philosophy.

🤝 Community & Ethos

“One Club” Integration Fully embedded into the “One Club” philosophy, sharing media coverage, supporter backing, and clubhouse matchday hospitality with the rest of Blyth Spartans AFC.
Spartan Identity Plays with the same hallmark “Spartan” spirit as their predecessors—built on hard work, community pride, and a “never say die” attitude on the pitch.
Croft Park Visibility The club makes a concerted effort to stage women’s fixtures at Croft Park where possible, giving the players and supporters the stadium platform their historical legacy deserves.
