BLYTH SPARTANS 0 – 3 CRAMLINGTON TOWN League Cup
After a little break, the girls were back in action this afternoon as they made the short trip to Blyth Spartans for a League Cup tie that was always going to be a tough test for the lasses!
Before we get into today’s game, a quick catch-up from our last fixture on 18/10, when we narrowly lost 2-3 to Alnwick Town in the County Cup. Unfortunately, a bit of managerial oversight means there was no match report for that one! Well done to Bella, who added another two goals to her tally!
Back to today!
Blyth started the stronger side, moving the ball quickly and showing plenty of pace in attack. Their early efforts were comfortably dealt with by Brooke, who was in for a busy afternoon!
Against the run of play, Maddie played a brilliant ball through to Bella, who showed great composure to round the keeper and slot home to make it 0-1!
We came under plenty of pressure from Blyth, but the defence stood firm, while Brooke pulled off some incredible saves to keep us ahead going into the break.
The girls made a quick start to the second half, breaking away with Amber, who also rounded the keeper before calmly slotting home to double our lead! 0-2!
Blyth continued to push forward and won a penalty, but Brooke had other ideas, making a fantastic save to keep their hopes of a comeback at bay!
The pressure continued, but Brooke dealt with everything Blyth threw at her, producing another couple of brilliant saves along the way.
We then put the game beyond doubt when Maddie picked out Bella, who produced a brilliant finish from outside the box to grab her second of the afternoon and seal the win! 0-3!
An all-round brilliant team performance from every single player today! Every player contributed, dug deep when needed and worked hard for one another to secure a fantastic result against a very good Blyth side. The girls should be proud of themselves!
PLAYER OF THE MATCH: BROOKE
A fantastic performance between the sticks, making some outstanding saves throughout the game, including a crucial penalty save. Absolutely deserved!
Finally, we would like to send our best wishes to the Blyth Spartans player who suffered an ankle injury during the first half and was taken to hospital. We hope it’s nothing too serious and wish her a speedy recovery.
